In volleyball, Howland beat Boardman.
CANFIELD -- Max Brugler and Tyler Lemon scored for the Champion High boys soccer team, which beat Canfield 2-1 on Saturday. Rich Salma had 15 saves for Champion. Kyle Reese scored and Eric Clayton had nine saves for Champion. JVs: Canfield, 3-1.
Lakeview 1, West Branch 1
BELOIT -- Josh Daniels scored for Lakeview and Aaron Cronin scored for the Warriors. Patrick Arbuckle had nine saves for the Bulldogs, while Shane Young had 12 saves and Johnny Wallace had an assist for West Branch (7-1-2).
Liberty 7, Newton Falls 1
NEWTON FALLS -- Ron Hunkus scored five goals and Jim Kelly had two assists for Liberty in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game. Ryan Karson and Brian Sehon each added a goal for Liberty (4-4-2) while Jeremy Hume had four saves. Paysen Cowie scored on an assist by Josh Banyas for Newton Falls (2-7-1). Kurt Ellis had four saves.
Girls soccer
AUSTINTOWN -- Dina Harris and Jodi Bowlen each scored two goals to lead Fitch past St. Joseph Academy in girls soccer, 6-1. Kristi Brendlinger had a goal and two assists to also pace the Falcons (4-3-3), while Brittney Getz added one goal and Harris and Amanda Sprowl one assist apiece.
Donna Friedman scored the only goal for St. Joseph Academy (1-9) of Cleveland on an assist by Liz Neroni. Fitch goalie Cara Calai had six saves. St. Joseph goalie Eileen McIver had five saves. JVs: Fitch tied 2-2.
Ursuline 1, Salem 1
SALEM -- Mariah Snyder scored and Hannah Snyder had an assist for Ursuline (4-4-2). Zahra Scullion had a goal for Salem (5-4-1).
Howland 1, North Allegheny 1
HOWLAND -- Erin Gilmour scored the tying goal on an assist by Laura Sefcik with less than four minutes left for Howland (8-0-2). Maura Romano scored for North Allegheny. Melissa Airhart had six saves for Howland. JVs: Howland 5-2.
Conneaut 3, Badger 2
KINSMAN -- Cayla Arnold and Sarah Dunfee each scored for Badger (5-4), while Amanda Gordon and Hannah Miller had assists. Hayley Griswold scored twice for Conneaut (7-2-1), including the game-winner with three minutes left.
Volleyball
BOARDMAN -- Brittany Kelly had 23 points and 20 assists to lead Howland past Boardman 25-21, 25-17, 25-23. Taylor Summerfield added 18 kills for the Tigers (9-3). For Boardman (10-5), April Melquist had 11 kills and five blocks, Ali Sfara 12 points and Danielle Williams 16 assists. JVs: Boardman 25-8, 25-13.
West Branch 25-25,South Range 13-11
BELOIT -- Lauren Pshsniak had 10 points, 10 kills, 10 passes and six serve receptions to lead West Branch (9-7), while Racheal Boyce had 15 points and three kills. Sara Maxwell had seven digs and Megan Sosnowski had 10 assists for South Range (5-7).
South Range 25-25,Beaver Local 21-18
BELOIT -- Tara Chizmar and Annie Semko each had eight kills and Megan Sosnowski had 18 assists for the Raiders.
West Branch 25-25,Beaver Local 13-6
BELOIT -- Casey Benner had 11 points, five kills and five assists and Alisa Wartluft had 10 points and seven passes for West Branch.
Cross country
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- Lauren Fithian placed 20th overall and Molly Noll was 22nd as the Poland High girls cross country team placed third at the Sharpsville Invitational at Buhl Park.
Neshannock's Kacey Gibson broke her own course record with a time of 17 minutes, 41 seconds to finish first. General McLane won the team title.
Jimmy Ramson placed 13th overall in the boys race as the Bulldogs finished sixth. Poland's Eric Kennedy was 25th. Lincoln's Jake Walker won the individual title (15:22) and Neshannock's Michael Duffee was second. North East won the team title.
