Police arrest man, 33, accused of threatening tavern patrons

YOUNGSTOWN -- A West Side man was arrested Sunday after being accused of chasing another man with an ax in a tavern and threatening to shoot several people there.
Dominic DeFrank, 33, of Second Street is charged with felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon.
The victim at Nyki's Post 22, 2426 Mahoning Ave., told police DeFrank became irate and began to swing the ax at him.
According to a police report, the suspect entered and yelled that "they" left his wife for dead. When the victim asked who "they" were, DeFrank became angry and reportedly went after him with a hand ax.
The victim picked up a bar stool for protection, at which time DeFrank left but threatened to return to shoot everyone inside, the report shows.
Police said they saw DeFrank walking on Mahoning Avenue about 2:30 p.m. and arrested him in the 1600 block. Police say they found a hand ax concealed in his pants.
While in custody, DeFrank slipped his handcuffs from behind his back and kicked the cruiser's door to escape, and police used pepper spray after he refused several times to cooperate, the report says. DeFrank tried to get away again and was treated for a small scrape over his right eye after police tried to get him back in the police car.
