CORTLAND - Crop Walk, an annual event to help fight hunger, is scheduled for Oct. 16. The walk is sponsored locally by Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship and nationally by Church World Services.
Anyone wanting to participate can get a form from any LOAF-associated church. The walker ask friends and relatives to make money contributions.
Registration for the 4.8-mile walk that begins at Cortland Methodist Church, 155 N. High St., will be at 1 p.m. with the walk starting at 1:30 p.m. Seventy-five percent of the money raised will go to Church World Service and 25 percent to area food pantries.
Legal, medical seminar
WARREN -- Trumbull County Probate Judge Thomas A. Swift will host a combined legal and medical issues seminar and 25th Annual Probate Practice Seminar at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex.
The seminar is co-sponsored by the Trumbull County Bar Association and qualifies for continuing education credits to nurses, counselors, social workers, pharmacists and attorneys as well as providing an educational tool to law enforcement, health care workers and court employees.
Presenters are Dr. Phillip J. Resnick of University Hospitals of Cleveland; Dr. Paul David Nussban, clinical neuropsychologist; Ohio Supreme Court Justice Evelyn L. Stratton; attorney Mark Finamore; and Judge Swift.

Collecting clothing
CORTLAND - Teca's Walk In Closet, 254 S. High St., is collecting winter clothing for distribution Oct. 22, which is "Make a Difference Day." Deadline to drop the coats, hats and gloves off at the shop for those in need is Oct. 21.
The clothes should be clean and free of stains. Last year, 120 coats, 12 hats and four pairs of gloves were distributed.
Job skills for teens
COLUMBIANA -- A job skills development program for teens 14-18 who are residents of Columbiana County will begin in October at The Way Station locations in East Palestine and Columbiana.
The program will include general job skills instruction and guaranteed interviews with local employers.

Cat show at expo center
NILES -- Cat Fanciers' Association Great Lakes Region will sponsor a show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 9 at Niles Expo Center, 5555 Youngstown-Niles Road.
More than 350 purebred felines including Maine coon, Persian, Norwegian forest cat, Abyssinian, Burmese and Japanese bobtail, will compete for "top cat" status.
Tickets, available at the door, will be $6 for adults, $5 for children and free for those 5 and younger.
