Violinist plans shows in area



YOUNGSTOWN -- Violinist Ariana Kim will perform for the public during her upcoming visit to the Mahoning Valley.
The St. Paul, Minn., native has roots in the Mahoning Valley. Her grandparents are violin instructor Kathryn Walker of Boardman and Dr. Mark Walker, former head of the theory department at the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University.
Kim will give a concert at 8 p.m. Oct. 6 in Bliss Recital Hall on the YSU campus. The concert will feature works by Mozart, Bela Bartok and Bach. Diane Yazvac of Boardman will accompany on the piano. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information call (330) 941-3636.
Kim began studying the violin at age 3, giving her first solo recital a year later while still in preschool. At age 11, Kim made her orchestral debut as a soloist at Minnesota Orchestra Hall. She has since had extensive solo and collaborative appearances with various orchestras and artists that have taken her throughout the United States and abroad. She lives in New York City and completed a European tour with the Juilliard Orchestra.
Kim will also perform with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Michael Gelfand, at 8 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Passavant Memorial Center of Thiel College. Her final area performance will be at the Greenville Symphony Young Audience Concert on Oct. 11. Tickets will be available at the door starting at $15; students will be admitted free.
