SOCCER Gonzalez helps key Ursuline past Fitch



Kelli Willis scored twice for Mooney in a matchup of state-ranked teams.
AUSTINTOWN -- Lucas Gonzalez had three goals to lead Ursuline High to a 4-2 victory over Fitch in a boys soccer game Saturday.
Corey Mihaly added one goal and one assist while Mick Kovalszik, Vlad Lungu and Kevin Patrick each had an assist for the Irish (6-3-1).
For Fitch (3-7), Nick Bowlen and Brad Hrinko each had a goal and Jeff Basile an assist.
The Irish outshot the Falcons, 16-10.
Ursuline goalie Jared Daly provided 11 saves.

WARREN -- James Frost scored two goals and had an assist for the Rebels (9-1-2). Cory Leeson scored the other goal.
Dennis Twaddle had 27 defensive stops for Crestview.

BRISTOLVILLE -- Lauren Mauric scored two goals for Newton Falls in a 4-2 win over Bristol.
Kortni Collins and Mary Jo Spletzer each had one goal, while Casee Piquet, Spletzer and Kacee Kubicina had an assist apiece for the Tigers (4-5-2).
Trishna Helmick and Kristen Cummins scored a goal apiece for Bristol. Amanda Ramussen and Alysha Briggs each had an assist.
Allison Snyder had four saves in goal for the Tigers.
Kylie Robertson had 15 saves for Bristol.
Mooney 3,Springfield Northwestern 2
SPRINGFIELD -- Senior forward Kelli Willis scored twice for the Cardinals in the game between state-ranked schools.
The two goals by Willis and another by Kelly Burke gave Mooney (6-2-1) a 3-1 lead.
Kourtney Thomas assisted on one Mooney goal.
Northwestern (6-1-1) then scored in the waning minutes.
Mooney was ranked fifth in the state in Div. II this week and Northwestern was No. 10.
Mooney goalie Natalie Humphries made three saves.
