Recycling collectiontargets aluminum, paper
NEW WATERFORD -- A paper and aluminum recycling collection will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of Crestview High School.
Paper items to be collected include: newspapers, magazines, phone books, catalogs, paperback books, hard cover books, school and office paper, junk mail and cardboard of all types. It is helpful if paper items are separated by type, according to spokeswoman Kathy Cattrell. Paper items can be packed into brown paper bags, smaller plastic bags, or smaller cardboard boxes, she said.
Clean aluminum cans can be brought in larger plastic bags. The next collection will be Nov. 17.
Safety council offersfirst-aid courses
YOUNGSTOWN -- The National Safety Council is offering Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Courses that meet OSHA standards for emergency care training in the workplace.
CPR /AED Course: Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to noon. Member cost $25, or nonmember $32.
First Aid Course: Sept. 28, 2005, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Member cost $25, or nonmember $32.50.

Buhl Farm committeeschedules a work day
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Buhl Farm Aboretum committee will have a work day at 9 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers will meet at the casino. Any group interested in supporting the committee's effort to beautify the park should e-mail Richard Will at Richardwill@adelpha.net with the number of expected volunteers. 4-H horse show
CORTLAND -- The 4-H Youth of Trumbull County will sponsor a benefit horse show Saturday and Oct. 2 at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds in Bazetta. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Opening day will feature an English Show, followed Sunday with a Western Pleasure and Contest. There will be food, a silent auction and a T-shirt sale.
Free computer classes
BESSEMER, Pa. -- As a community service, Bessemer Presbyterian Church, 29 N. Main St., is offering free classes on basic personal computer and moderate-level computer class. Sessions are scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 6-27.

RAVENNA -- The U.S. Army is seeking information about former activities at the Ravenna Army Ammunition Plant that might require environmental cleanup.
