PREP VOLLEYBALL Lakeview captures Blue-White crown in sweep of Perry



Poland beat Ashtabula Edgewood for third place in the tournament.
CORTLAND -- Michelle Antonelli had 30 digs and 12 assists to lead the Lakeview High volleyball team past Perry, 25-28, 20-25, 16-14, in the championship match of the Blue and White Classic Saturday at Lakeview High.
Lauren McCumber and Joanna Novotny added eight kills each and Rachael Karasiewicz six service points for Lakeview, which finished 3-0 in the tournament. Perry wound up 2-1 for second place.
Ashtabula Edgewood defeated Poland for third place, 11-25, 25-22, 15-13. Ashley Conger had 12 digs and seven kills while Rena Bondi had 10 service points to lead Poland. Edgewood had a 2-1 record, Poland 1-2.
In semifinal matches, Lakeview defeated Poland, 25-15, 25-21, while Perry beat Edgewood 25-18, 25-27, 18-16.
In quarterfinals, Lakeview beat Niles, 25-15, 25-9; Poland topped Chaney; Perry defeated Canfield, 25-13, 25-22; and Edgewood beat Western Reserve, 9-25, 25-17, 15-10.
In the first round, Canfield beat Western Reserve, 25-15, 25-15; and Chaney topped Niles, 25-22, 25-15.
Canfield placed fifth ( 2-1), Chaney sixth (1-2), Western Reserve seventh (1-2) and Niles eighth (0-3).
Mooney 25-25-25,Newton Falls 8-20-16
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mooney remained unbeaten by beating Newton Falls.
Sarah Pelini scored 15 points, with three aces and nine kills for the Cardinals (12-0). Vicki Kocanjer added 14 points, nine blocks and five kills. Dayna Daltorio had 10 points, seven kills and six blocks and Chelsea Mack scored 10 points, 15 assists, six aces and four kills.
Brandi Lance led the Tigers (2-9) with six assists. Sasha McGregor had four kills.

LISBON -- Lisa Padurean scored 13 points and had 16 kills and 15 digs to spark the Blue Devils (8-2, 7-1 TCL).
Emily Smith added five points, 39 assists and four kills. Ashley Adams had 15 kills and four blocks.
Kayla Faudree led the Trojans (6-8) with 18 points, seven kill and two blocks. Ashley Amabeli had 14 kills, eight blocks, 15 assists.

STRUTHERS -- Sarah Stewart paced the Bulldogs (8-5) with 13 kills and six blocks. Jenn Yokley added 13 digs. Chelsea Peterson scored 14 points.
Jeanette McLaughlin led the Wildcats (4-10) with 19 points, seven aces.
Dana Varga had 29 assists and Jennifer McLaughlin had 16 digs.

Hubbard 25-23-15,Amherst Steele 15-25-12
HUBBARD -- The Eagles (12-2) captured their own Classic day long tournament with the victory over Amherst Steele.
Columbus Bishop Hartley defeated Southeast 25-22, 25-21 for third place; Salem topped Massillon 25-19, 25-21 for fifth place and Notre Dame-Cathedral Catholic beat Akron Hoban 25-11, 25-18 for seventh place.
Corrie Gasser of the Eagles was named MVP and the All Tournament team included Callie Oyler of Hubbard, Jennifer Gahagen of Southeast, Tricia Couples of Bishop Hartley, Megan Miley, Bridgett Leonard and Kim Hovanec of Amherst Steele.
Oyler led Hubbard with 16 points and 34 kills. Gasser had 19 points and 69 assists.
Maggie Bogdan finished with 27 kills and 11 blocks.
