WESTMINSTER
Freshman Aaron Titus (Badger) had the second-fastest time for the men's cross country team at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational. Titus placed 54th overall in 30 minutes, 19 seconds, as the Titans finished seventh out of 10 teams. Other area finishers for Westminster were freshman Andrew Brown (Hickory), 60th in 30:55, and sophomore Joe Knott (West Middlesex), 66th in 31:30. In the women's meet, junior Amy Carroll (Sharon) had the second-fastest time for Westminster (22:37) for 60th place, as the Titans finished eighth out of 14 teams.
In women's soccer, sophomore defender Brittany McKee (Hubbard) scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Allegheny, 1-0. McKee scored her first goal of the season on Abby Montgomery's corner kick in the first half. Then in the Titans' 2-1 win over Thomas More, freshman midfielder Christina Adams and Mallory Bugel assisted on Montgomery's first-half goal that gave Westminster a 1-0 lead. The Titans eventually won, 2-1, on Sarah Calderone's goal.
In volleyball, senior outside hitter Erin Hinks (Mineral Ridge) and junior setter Rachael Cooper (Laurel) helped Westminster post a 3-1 record to place second in the Titan Invitational, and both were selected to the all-tournament team. Hinks registered a team-high 19 kills in the win over Carlow, while junior middle hitter Katie McDermott (Fitch) added 10 kills and sophomore outside hitter Diana Conzett (Hubbard) had nine. Cooper also had 23 assists and five aces. Sophomore middle hitter Jessica Cooper (Laurel) had five blocks. McDermott had 13 kills in the win over Ohio Wesleyan, Conzett and Hinks adding 11 and 10, respectively. Rachael Cooper contributed a team-high 34 assists with four service aces. In the win over Pitt-Bradford, Hinks had a team-best 14 kills while McDermott and Jessica Cooper added nine apiece and Rachael Cooper had 22 assists. In the loss to Wooster in the championship match, Hinks had a team-best 20 kills while McDermott had 10 and Rachael Cooper 26 assists. Through 14 matches, Westminster had an 8-6 record.
TIFFIN
Anthony Colaluca (Fitch), a freshman on the men's soccer team, helped his team post a 4-2 win at home over Madonna University. Colaluca scored a goal in the first half and an assist in the second half. While at Fitch, Colaluca was Division 1 district player of the year and was twice was named to the All-Federal League first team.
Four area players are with the football team, including Anthony Jackson, a junior wide receiver from Girard High. The others are freshmen Joe Buday (Columbiana) and Jim Kittle and Brian Howard (both of LaBrae). Tiffin had a 1-3 record entering Saturday's home game against Alma. Jackson is the son of Tracy Jackson and is majoring in marketing. While at Girard under coach Bud McSuley, Jackson made the All-Trumbull County and all-league teams. Buday, an offensive lineman, is the son of Fritz and Greta Kauffman, and is majoring in international security. He played for coach Bob Spaite at Columbiana and made the All-NEO and All-Columbiana County teams. Kitte, a linebacker, is the son of James Kittle and is majoring in education and information technology. While at LaBrae, Kittle made All-NEO, All-TAC and All-Trumbull County. Howard, a defensive end, is the son of Janet and Rusty Howard and is majoring in accounting. Howard played for coach Bill Hart at LaBrae and made all-state, All-NEO, All-TAC and All-Trumbull County.
MOUNT UNIONSophomore forward Kelly Croysdale (Austintown Fitch) scored what turned out to be the deciding goal for the women's soccer team in a game at Grove City. Croysdale tallied on an assist from freshman midfielder Ashley Shea Sutton (Salem) to give the Purple Raiders a 2-0 lead, and they held on for a 2-1 win and 3-4 record. Croysdale has two goals and one assist through seven games for five points to rank second on the team in scoring behind junior Cortney Frederick (six points). Sutton's assist was her first point. Other area players with Mount Union are Kristy Croysdale (Fitch), a senior defender and three-year letter winner; Sarah Payne (East Liverpool), a junior midfielder and two-year letter winner; Jenny Singleton (Boardman), a sophomore defender; and Elizabeth Connor (East Liverpool), a sophomore defender. Singleton and Connor have each won one letter.
OHIO WESLEYAN
Sophomore outside hitter Steffi Graf (Poland) had a team-high 40 digs and added seven kills in a 3-1 loss at Bluffton. Then Graf had team-bests of 12 kills and 23 digs as Ohio Wesleyan beat Pitt-Bradford, 3-0, in the first of four matches at the Westminster Invitational. Graf followed with a team-high 10 kills with 27 digs in a 3-1 loss to Westminster, and she had seven kills in a 3-1 win over Carlow. Then in a battle for third place, Graf had team-highs of 23 kills and 27 digs in a 3-1 win over Penn State-Behrend.
MALONE
Junior Scotty Jones (East Palestine) gained medalist honors for his second straight meet this season to lead Malone to the championship of the Red Poling Collegiate Classic at Spring Harbor University. Jones fired a 72 as Malone scored 301 to edge Hope (302) by one stroke in the six-team meet . Then in the 12-team Malone Fall Invitational at Tannenhauf Golf Course, Jones fired 71-70--141 to share medalist honors. But Jones lost on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.
