Officer kills sick fox

YOUNGSTOWN -- A city police patrol officer had to kill a fox early Saturday that appeared to be rabid.
Police were called to Wilson Avenue and Gladstone Drive, on the East Side near Lincoln Park and Oakland Field, about 1:30 a.m. on a report of a sick fox in the area. In their report, officers described finding a small brown fox that looked "dazed and confused." An animal control officer advised the police that the fox could be rabid.
An officer shot the fox twice because the first shot failed to kill the animal.
The carcass was put into a plastic container so the health department can test the remains for rabies.
