MiniPage activities meet many state and national educational standards. This week's standards: Students demonstrate understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. (Physical Education) Students value physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction. (Physical Education)
Activities:
1. Make a "Soccer Rules!" collage. Cut out newspaper words, photos or drawings that show something about soccer.
2. Create a "Good soccer players ..." poster for your room. On the poster, list three skills you need to develop to become a good soccer player and three personal qualities you should have.
3. What do Kristine Lilly and Brad Guzan say about soccer that would make you want to play soccer, too? Use your ideas to write a paragraph that begins, "I would love to play soccer because ..."
4. Divide a piece of paper into three columns. Label the columns "Baseball," "Basketball" and "Football." In each column, write several ways soccer is like that sport. Then write several ways soccer is different from that sport.
5. Write a paragraph explaining how you play a particular sport. Use soccer if you are on a soccer team, or you can use another team sport. Include the following information in your paragraph: What skills do you have that help you play well? How do you contribute to the team? How does your attitude help you play well? Why do you like this sport?
