"Hans Christian Andersen: The Man and his Tales." A unique storytelling performance portraying the world's most beloved storyteller. "ROCcK Choir." The ROCcK (Raising Our Commitment to Cancer Kids) Choir is comprised of area youth between 5-17 years of age, who are either cancer survivors themselves, or family and friends of cancer survivors. "Guitar Lessons." Learn the basics of playing the guitar. Learn at your own speed for grades 7-12 at Brownlee Woods, Oct. 5 and 12; Campbell, Oct. 18 and 25; and Struthers, Oct. 3 and 10. All programs start at 6 p.m. Space is limited so sign up early. Bring your own guitar or one can be provided.
"Get Reel at your Library." We'll "clue you in" and you guess the name of the book that matches the movie to be eligible for prizes for grades 7-12 at East, South, and West, Oct. 17-22, during library hours.
ADULT PROGRAMS
"Lunch & amp; Learn at the Library: Chocolate on Trial." In 1909 the English Press reported that slave labor was being used to produce chocolate for the Cadbury Brothers Company. Since the owners were politically progressive and anti-slavery, a public outcry ensued. In his book, recently released by Ohio State University Press, Dr. Lowell Satre, emeritus professor of history at YSU, explores the scandal and celebrated trial which followed at Main Library, noon-1 p.m. Oct. 11. This program is co-sponsored by the Friends of Main Library and the YSU English Department. Bring a brown bag lunch, coffee is provided.
"Hispanic Heritage Week." In honor of Hispanic Heritage Week we will be a book discussion at Main Library, 7 p.m. Oct. 6. The title of the book is "When I Was Puerto Rican/Esmeralda Santiago" by Esmeraldo Santiago. Maggie McClendon of Youngstown State University will facilitate this discussion. At 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at Main Library, a second discussion with the title of "Borinquen Del Mar Y El Sol, The Brief History of Puerto Rico, a Puerto Rican's Journey to the Mahoning Valley" will be held. Gisela Dieter, the research and compilation author, will facilitate this discussion.
