DUI suspect is arrested in crash death

The suspect yelled and swore at police and hospital staff.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Edwin Moran Jr. was arrested on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and DUI after a West Side crash that left a Boardman woman dead, police said.
Dead at the scene at Hazelwood and Oakwood avenues around 1 a.m. Friday was Angela Daltorio, 54, of Jaguar Drive, Boardman, police said. Her front-seat passenger, Nicholas Daltorio, 18, same address, was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. The condition of the rear seat passenger, Steven Silvestri, 21, of Squirrel Hill Drive, Boardman, was not available late Friday.
Moran, 25, of Monroe Street, Campbell, was treated at the hospital and then transferred to the Mahoning County jail. City Prosecutor Dionne M. Almasy said he would be arraigned Monday in municipal court.
At the scene
When police arrived at the crash site at Hazelwood and Oakwood they found Angela Daltorio inside her 2001 burgundy Ford Taurus. She could not be revived when an ambulance and firefighters arrived, police said.
Moran, who police said was staggering as he walked near the white 1990 Acura he had been driving, told officers that the Taurus hit him from behind. Police said Moran smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, kept repeating himself and talking in a very loud and aggressive manner.
He was placed in a neck brace and taken to the hospital.
Silvestri told police that they had been northbound on Hazelwood in the Taurus -- around 25 mph -- when the white Acura Legend, going at a high rate of speed eastbound on Oakwood, ran the red light.
At the hospital, city police tried to interview Moran. They described him as still very aggressive and said he kept slurring his words as he yelled and swore at police and hospital staff.
Humility of Mary Health Partners police were called to the emergency room because of Moran's behavior.
Moran, again using profanity at officers and nursing staff, screamed that he drank four shots of "Henny" (cognac) because his father just died, HMHP Officer Phil Chance said in his report. The officer described Moran as highly intoxicated.
Moran was strapped to the bed with leather restraints because he was combative and pulled medical equipment off himself in an attempt to leave, Chance said in his report.
