SOCCER Poland's Malaniak scores 3



Howland and Mooney posted shutout victories.
POLAND -- Dain Malaniak scored three goals Thursday to lead the Poland High boys soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Warren JFK.
Matt Shurilla, Steve Gavolas and Chris Junchno also scored for the Bulldogs (7-1). Juchno had two assists and Shurilla one. Poland goalkeeper Caleb Markusic made one save.
For JFK (4-4-2) goalkeeper Pat Porcroft made five saves.
Howland 7, Salem 0
HOWLAND -- Ian Jones scored three goals and Sumit Kovoor two for the Tigers (7-3-0, 3-1-0, MAC).
Zack Byler and Sean Gerin also netted goals. Jones had two assists while Byler, Eric Albani and Mark Hammond had one. Goalkeeper Paul Burley made five saves and Dan Miller one.
Quakers (1-8-1, 0-3-1) goalkeeper Jackson Anderson made 10 saves.
JVs: Howland 5, Salem 1.
Mooney 5, Harding 0
WARREN -- Senior forward Zack Hernan had four goals and freshman forward Hector Hernandez had the other goal.
Junior stopper Kyle Buxman and junior midfielder Aleko Frangopoulos each had an assist for Mooney (6-2-1).
Mooney goalie Andrew Loudon made three saves.
JVs: Mooney 7, Harding 0.
Wednesday
STRUTHERS -- Marisa Simon scored twice as the Mooney (6-21, 3-0-0 Steel Valley Confernce) girls team overcame a 2-1 deficit to defeat Ursuline, 4-2.
Nomiki Frangopoulos scored an insurance goal and Kelli Willis netted the Cardinals' first goal. Willis and Vicki Freiling earned assists while goalkeeper Natalie Humphreys made nine saves.
For Ursuline (4-3-0, 2-1-0), Mariah Snyder and Kalia Buckley scored goals and goalkeeper Jolanto Carkido made 18 saves.
