Ursuline footballgame changed
Ursuline High's varsity football game against Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary has been changed from Friday, Oct. 28, to Saturday, Oct. 29. The game will be played at 7:30 p.m. at St. Vincent-St. Mary's stadium.
West Branch winsconference title
ALLIANCE -- Ben Heverly shot 73 leading the West Branch High golf team to the Northeastern Buckeye Conference championship at Sleepy Hollow golf course.
The Warriors (18-0) won the crown with 310 points beating the second place team Northwest (333) by 23 points.
Chris Rockwell of the Warriors, who captured the NBC regular season championship, carded 77. Teammates Randy Crowe finished with 78 and Joe Vizzuso and Shawn Linder fired 82s.
Ben Smith of Carrollton was medalist with 66.
Brian Hulea namedA-10 player of week
VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Brian Hulea, a senior linebacker for the Villanova University football team from Canfield High, was named Atlantic 10 Conference co-defensive player of the week.
Hulea was recognized for his performance in Villanova's 38-20 win over Northeastern last Saturday.
He registered a game-high 14 tackles, one of them for a loss; recovered two fumbles, including one for a touchdown, and intercepted one pass.
Hulea also was selected to the I-AA.org all-star team for his play against Northeastern.
Hulea has 314 career tackles, more than any current player in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Hinks named by PAC
NEW WILMINGTON -- Erin Hinks, a senior outside hitter for the Westminster College volleyball team, has been named Presidents' Athletic Conference player of the week.
Hinks led the Titans a 3-1 record and second-place finish in the eight-team Westminster Invitational last week. She had 63 kills or 3.94 kills per game, 37 digs, four assists, three blocks and two service aces.
In the tournament final, Hinks delivered a season-high 20 kills in Westminster's five-set loss to Wooster

Little Brown Jug
DELAWARE, Ohio -- P-Forty-Seven took the lead in the stretch and held off Village Jolt and Rocknroll Hanover to win the Little Brown Jug on Thursday in a race in which the last-place horse died on the track.
Driver Dave Palone and trainer Kelly O'Donnell won the Jug for the first time while preventing Brett Pelling, the trainer of both Village Jolt and favorite Rocknroll Hanover, from earning a fifth Jug win.
After the race, ninth-place finisher Dreamfair Kogel, driven by Richard Zeron, collapsed and died on the track in front of the paddock.

Boxer dies
LAS VEGAS -- Boxer Leavander Johnson died Thursday from injuries sustained five days earlier in a lightweight title fight with Jesus Chavez.
The 35-year-old died at University Medical Center, where he had been hospitalized since being injured in the fight Saturday night at the MGM Grand hotel-casino.
Griffey out
CINCINNATI -- Ken Griffey Jr. is finishing another season prematurely because of injury. This time, it's an upbeat ending.
The Reds' center fielder decided to give up his attempt to overcome a foot sprain and play again this season. Instead, he'll have a minor knee operation that has been anticipated for weeks, giving him a head-start on rehabilitation.
Deadmarsh retires
Adam Deadmarsh retired from the NHL on Thursday because of post-concussion syndrome, ending a 10-year career that included a Stanley Cup title with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 and two appearances for the U.S. Olympic team.
Hornets find homes
OKLAHOMA CITY -- The New Orleans Hornets have a few new homes on the road.
The Hornets announced plans to play 35 home games in Oklahoma City and six others in Baton Rouge, La., after a relocation agreement was approved by the city council.
Game moved
The non-conference football game between Missouri State and Sam Houston State, scheduled for Saturday in Huntsville, Texas, has been canceled because of Hurricane Rita.
