Hill View Manor will be auctioned
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County commissioners are moving forward with their plans to auction Hill View Manor on Saturday.
The auction will begin at 9 a.m. at the site of the county's former nursing home in Shenango Township and will include the three-story building, its contents and 35 acres.
Commissioners have secured appraisals of the property, but those values have remained private to attract a more competitive price for the building and land, they explained.
They have the option to accept or reject any of the bids and have determined the lowest bid amount they will consider.
The county tried two years ago to sell the site to Sylvan Heights Realty, but the deal fell through after reports that county funds were diverted to the realty company, which also was running the nursing home at the time.
The home closed early last year after the number of residents declined. Commissioners then agreed to put the property on the market.
In February, they entered into a contract with Realtor Darryl Audia to market the site. If the property does not sell at the auction, Audia will continue marketing it until his contract with the county expires later this year.
A list of all items to be sold is available by visiting the Audia Real Estate Web site at www.audiarealestate.com.
