D'Ambrosio resigns as head of ESC

WARREN -- The Trumbull County Educational Service Center governing board has accepted the resignation of Superintendent Anthony D'Ambrosio for the purpose of retirement, effective Dec. 31.
The board, however, will conduct a hearing at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 concerning a possible one-year reappointment of D'Ambrosio as superintendent after his retirement.
D'Ambrosio said he and the governing board have been discussing the possibility of his remaining as superintendent.
D'Ambrosio began his 35-year career in education as a teacher in the Youngstown City Schools, served as principal at Southington High School, adult education supervisor and dean of students at the Lordstown schools, and as superintendent of the Girard, Southington and Newton Falls schools.
During his four years as ESC superintendent, D'Ambrosio, 56, of Boardman, said one of his main accomplishments has been to serve as a mentor to several new school district superintendents in Trumbull County.
The Educational Service Center, which employs 268 people, has 20 member school districts in Trumbull County.
The center was formerly known as the county board of education. It provides curriculum, technology, psychology, audiology, speech, occupational and physical therapy services to member school districts. The center also operates special education preschool programs for the districts.
