Officials to determineif traffic signal's needed
NORTH LIMA -- The Mahoning County Engineer's office will conduct traffic counts at Western Reserve Road and Harvard Boulevard next month to decide if the intersection's volume warrants a traffic signal.
Beaver Township residents complained in August to trustees about vehicle safety at the intersection.
Beaver police suggested possibly making the east side of Harvard a right turn only.
Seventh Ward Coalitionplans annual yard sale
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Seventh Ward Coalition is having its annual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at IPE Field, Midlothian Blvd. and Lemoyne Avenue.
There will be food vendors, and the proceeds will go to the group's scholarship fund.
Springfield schools
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield Local School Board has adopted a $10,723,126 spending plan for fiscal year 2006.
The school board earmarked $9 million Tuesday for the general fund, $753,850 for special revenue and $133,213 for capital projects.
In other business, the board hired three tutors for the elementary school at the rate of $12 an hour. They are Margaret Jones, Wendy Coy and Lorraine Book.
James Schuler was named an hourly substitute teacher and math tutor at an hourly rate of $12, retroactive to Sept. 12.
Deborah Haire was hired as an educational assistant on an as-needed basis. She is to be paid $8.31 an hour.
Prosecutor's grant
WARREN -- The Ohio Attorney General's Office has awarded the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office continuation of its Victim/Witness Division grant.
The county has received the grant since 1986. With it, the county has been able to serve felony crime victims in the common pleas and juvenile courts by providing them with courtroom advocacy and court date notification.
One of these advocates is Miriam Fife of Warren, who has been helping crime victims in the years since the murder of her son, Raymond, in 1985.
Crime watch meeting
NORTH LIMA -- The public is invited to the Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Shepherd of the Valley's Activity Center, 9111 Sharrott Road.
Capt. Ivan Musgrove of the Salvation Army, who recently returned from an 11-day trip in which he helped victims of Hurricane Katrina, will speak. He will discuss current relief efforts and what people can do to support hurricane victim assistance.
The group also will discuss local crime.
Mill Creek Center grant
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Greater Mill Creek Center announced it has received a $20,000 Good Neighbor Grant from the Raymond John Wean Foundation.
The grant will enable the center to continue nutrition and healthy cooking and exercise classes designed to address the health risk factors prevalent in the minority and "under-served" population, center officials said.

House fire probed
BRISTOLVILLE -- Firefighters are still investigating the cause of a house fire that was confined to a back bedroom of a single-family residence at 1341 Hyde-Oakfield Road.
But the cause of the blaze, which erupted at 10:48 p.m. Tuesday in the Raymond family home, may be electrical, the fire department said.
A teenage girl woke her mother up, and both escaped before firefighters arrived. There were no injuries.
There was smoke damage throughout the first floor.
Boil-water alert
CANFIELD -- The city has issued a boil-water order for residents of Deer trail Drive in Canfield until 9 a.m. Friday.
A waterline broke on Deer Trail at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. The city advises residents to boil water vigorously for one minute if it is being used for drinking, cooking or teeth-brushing or to make ice.
Because of numerous breaks, the waterline is scheduled to be replaced. That project begins Monday.
