Mercer Co. raises workers' mileage

MERCER, Pa. -- County employees will receive another increase in their gas mileage reimbursement Oct. 1 because of the steep price of fuel.
Mercer County commissioners have included on the agenda for today's meeting an increase in the reimbursement for employees using their own vehicles from 35 to 38 cents.
The rate had been 32 cents before July 4, when it was raised to 35 for everyone because of a clause in one courthouse employees' union contract that requires increased reimbursement when the gas price goes over $1.90.
Bill Boyle, director of administrative services, pointed out that the county's rate is lower than the 48.5 cents the Internal Revenue Service allows to be deducted per mile.
He said the higher rate will be effective until the end of the year.
