VOLLEYBALL Hopkins helps Chaney slide past Beaver Local



Boardman fell to Uniontown Lake in a Federal League match.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jasmyn Hopkins scored 13 points and made 10 kills and three blocks Tuesday as the Chaney High volleyball team defeated Beaver Local in four games.
Antaya James had 10 kills and five assists as Chaney won by scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23.
Monica Miller made three blocks, Jacquela Taymor had 16 assists and Emilie Wheland had four aces for the Cowgirls (6-2, 6-0 Steel Valley Conference).
For Beaver Local (3-6), Emilee Hall and Brooke Jackson scored seven points, Mallory Yajko made five kills. Jackson had four digs and Darcy Allison made three blocks.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Vickie Kocanjer had seven aces, 10 kills, six blocks and 18 points, Michelle Pelini had six kills and nine points and Jacci Wyman had eight kills and nine points for Mooney (10-0). JVs: Mooney, 25-14, 25-14.

WARREN -- Morgan Dowell had six points, four aces, 10 kills and eight assists, Bre Carpenter had 20 digs and Jasmine Stringer had five points, seven kills, six assists and six digs for Harding (5-4). JVs: Warren Harding 25-12, 25-8.

BOARDMAN -- April Melquist had 26 points, Ali Sfara had 13 kills, eight digs and Katie Spatara had 24 assists for Boardman (10-3, 1-3 Federal League).
Brittany Poling had 21 points and 24 kills and Brandy Gang had five blocks for the Streaks (11-2, 3-1).

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Christy Warren and Nora McKelvey each scored 10 points for the Tigers (9-5, 5-1 ICL). Warren had 20 kills and two blocks and Krista Snyder had 31 assists.
Rachael Hernan led the Blue Devils (6-4, 2-4) with 25 points, 14 kills and 11 digs. Kristiana Brown added 20 points with 10 kills and 10 digs.

LOWELLVILLE -- Jenny Frayer had 26 points, Abby Kiger had 15 kills, Alex Ladd had 22 assists, Rachel Siler had six blocks and Sara Garland had 16 digs for Mineral Ridge (6-3, 3-2 Inter-County League).
Senior outside hitter Samantha DiBlasio had five kills, junior setter Casey Wilson had 18 assists, sophomore outside hitter Ali Grapevine had eight blocks and junior libero Carmella Ballone had eight digs for Lowellville (2-10, 0-5). Junior Rachel Mariotti had five kills, four aces and two blocks.

NORTH JACKSON -- Allison Chepke collected 19 points, two aces, 13 kills and 29 attacks for the Bluejays (5-3, 3-1 ICL).
Megan Whitmer added 15 points, 59 sets and 12 assists.
For the Raiders (4-6, 3-3), Annie Semko had four aces, six kills, 10 attacks, five solos and five assists. Megan Sosnowski added 26 assists.

Stephanie Higgins led the Vikings (5-5, 1-3) with 21 digs, 21 points and four aces. Maddie D'Orio had 16 kills and four blocks.

BELOIT -- Lauren Pshsniak scored 15 points, with eight kills and a block to pace the Warriors (7-6, 4-3 Northeastern Buckeye Conference). Casey Benner added 13 points, two kills and three blocks. Becky Rinyo added 13 points and 20 assists.
