Youngstown: At 10 a.m. Friday, Second Harvest Food Bank will kick off collecting merchandise for the "Love Train to Lake Pontchartrain," which will take kits of personal care items to the children victims.
Pupils from the Boardman and Poland school districts will collect items through Oct. 24 at their schools. Donations also can be dropped off at any Home Savings branch. For more information, contact Second Harvest Food Bank at (330) 792-5522 ext. 17 or mvinfo@secondharvest.org.
Niles: Various activities are planned for the city's fund raiser for the victims. The event will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Waddell Park. Highlights include music by Sky Pilot, Tall and House Arrest on the stage next to the city swimming pool. Also planned are a cruise-in car show, hayrides, a sketch artist and animal balloons.
Chili the Dog will be on hand to take donations especially for her four-legged friends down South. All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army Relief Fund to help victims, event organizers said.
Poland: Sunrise Assisting Living, 335 W. McKinley Way, is hosting Breakfast on the Go to raise money for the victims. From 7 to 9 a.m. Friday, representatives of the facility will give out boxed breakfasts including coffee, juice, muffins and a banana to any cars that pull through the center's turnaround. They'll bring the boxed meal to the car. The breakfast is free, but they'll accept donations for victims and plan to give all donations to the American Red Cross.
Salem: The Frank Fordeley Family Band will headline a show with 11 other live bands from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 2 at Ponderosa Park, Fordeley said. The Frank Fordeley Band will take the stage at 8 p.m. playing songs of their new CD, "Bike Night." The group also will put on a "Vegas costume show" and dress as star bands such as Van Halen, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more. All proceeds go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
