COLUMBIANA Theater group begins new season

The company's holiday show begins Nov. 30.
COLUMBIANA -- The 34west Theater Company presents an all-new season of shows at Das Dutch Village Inn, beginning with "Radio Theatre Mysteries," Oct. 28 and 29.
In the play, detective Perry Columbus investigates some mysterious happenings during a live broadcast of a 1940s radio show.
As with all 34west mystery shows, "Radio Theatre Mysteries" is filled with silly antics and hysterical characters, including radio station manager Barbitua Stormclott (Rebecca Whittenberger) and her assistant, Jack Altrayde (Steve Scott).
"These mystery shows are always popular with audiences," says 34west playwright-in-residence Stephen Baldwin, who also portrays detective Perry Columbus in the show. "People come up to us afterward and tell us they haven't laughed that much in years."
Baldwin adds that in addition to the silliness and far-fetched scenarios, 34west always keeps the shows clean. "We're known for producing quality, professional theater that the entire family can enjoy," said Baldwin.
Other productions
All 34west productions center around wholesome entertainment. Their second holiday show, "Christmas at the Inn," runs Nov. 30 through Dec. 17.
This variety show played to sold-out audiences last year and is packed with holiday laughter and song.
After the holidays, 34west presents the musical, "Waiting for Joshua," on Jan. 20 and 21 and April 20 and 21. The musical chronicles the Old Testament Bible story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho. This dramatic-comedy is set on the European battlefront during World War I, giving a new perspective on a classic story of triumph and promise.
Another mystery production returns over Valentine's Day weekend featuring inspector Agatha Marple in "Truffle in Paradise," Feb. 10 and 11. Miss Marple investigates a murder during the world-renown Brazilian Chocolate Festival, where the world's leading confectioners display their sweetest creations.
Encore presentation
After the mystery is an encore presentation of last year's hilarious comedy, "Fish Eyes," on March 31 and April 1. The play centers around two brothers, Andrew and Peter, and their time with Jesus during his ministry.
The final production of the season is the hit Broadway musical "A Year With Frog and Toad," June 1 and 2 and July 20 and 21. Nominated for three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, this Broadway triumph blossoms with vibrant songs and comedy.
All dinner-theaters are held in the banquet center of Das Dutch Village Inn of Columbiana, 150 E. state Route 14.
