Howland slips past Bluejays



The Tigers needed five games to improve to 8-1 on the season.
NORTH JACKSON -- Howland High improved its record to 8-1 but had a tough time against Jackson-Milton, winning in five games.
The Tigers won 25-8, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18, 15-10.
Taylor Summerfield led the Tigers with 20 points and 29 assists, while Katlyn Flick added four aces, 13 kills and 13 blocks and Malissa Hans had 17 digs.
Megan Whitmer scored 22 points with three aces to lead Jackson-Milton (4-3). Scarlett Chepke had 12 blocks.
Warren Harding 13-25-25-25,Wilson 25-10-5-7
WARREN -- Alex Dowell collected 17 points, two aces, two assists, six digs and four kills to lead the Raiders (4-4).
Krystyn Flannigan added 16 points, six aces, two digs and 40 assists. Also for Harding, Autum Hull had 11 points, five kills, seven assists and four digs.

CANFIELD -- April Melquist turned in 18 points, 18 kills and three blocks to spark the Spartans (10-2).
Courtney Schiffauer contributed 12 kills and four blocks while Katie Spatara had 25 assists.
For Canfield (5-7), Natasha Kassim had 14 points and 13 kills, Jackie Nentwick had 11 kills, four blocks and 17 digs, and Kate Heagerty had 22 assists and 17 digs.

Mineral Ridge 25-25-25,Ursuline 12-7-12
MINERAL RIDGE -- Jenny Frayer scored 14 points with five aces and added 12 digs to lead Mineral Ridge.
Angie Marino had 11 points and Sara Garland 18 digs for the Rams (5-3). Abbey Kiger also had 11 kills.
Ursuline (2-6) was led by Angeline Rich with four points and three blocks.
Lowellville 25-25-25,Campbell 4-13-14
CAMPBELL -- Samantha DeBlasin had nine aces, Rebekah Sturgiss had six kills and Casey Wilson had 24 assists for Lowellville (2-8).
Jamie Dolan had seven points for Campbell (0-7).

EAST PALESTINE -- Jenn Yokley had 16 kills, 14 spikes and 30 digs for East Palestine (5-5). Renee Torrence added 22 points, eight kills, 15 spikes and 20 digs, and Emile Givens had 24 points, seven kills and seven blocks.
For Poland (2-5), Doni Muransky had 17 kills, seven digs and 11 points; Ashley Conger had eight kills, eight digs, 18 points and 17 assists and Jenna Kazmierczak had 10 digs and eight points.

EAST FAIRFIELD -- Tricia Richards had 17 kills, four blocks, seven points, eight digs and an ace for Crestview (11-0).
Julia Roberts added 12 kills and Kristen Harroff had nine kills and 12 points, and Elyse Mongillo had 49 assists.
Springfield is 8-5.

LIBERTY -- Megan Kay had 21 points and four kills, Chelsea O'Donnell had 16 points and seven kills and Jessie Szackas had 14 points and 14 assists for the Leopards (5-4).
Leading Niles were Laura Ruberto with seven digs, Sara Infante with five kills and Amanda Binion with five points.

MECCA -- Brandi Dickerson had six kills, seven digs and seven points; Lauren Simmons had seven points and four aces, and junior Meagen Rowbottom had nine assists for Maplewood (6-1, 5-1 Northeast Athletic Conference).
Brittany Gania had eight assists, five points and two aces; Danielle Waggoner had three kills; Olivia Parsons had two digs and Sara Sabo had three blocks for Southington (0-6, 0-6).
