PREPS Altomare hits milestone as Leetonia rips Wellsville



The Bears coach has more wins than anyone in Columbiana County history.
WELLSVILLE -- Jake Kruegel scored two touchdowns and Leetonia coach Art Altomare became the winningest coach in Columbiana County history as the Bears defeated Wellsville 28-6 in a high school football game Saturday.
Altomare's win total of 144 surpassed the 143 wins by Lisbon's Edwin "Bud" Bucher.
Jamaar Pullie's 39-yard touchdown run put the Tigers ahead, 6-0, in the first quarter. Jon Williams' 1-yard plunge tied the game in the second quarter and his extra-point kick put the Bears (3-1, 1-0 Tri-County League) ahead for keeps.
Kruegel caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from Corey Raushenbach and later fell on a fumble in the end zone. Leetonia's other touchdown came on Jamie Milson's 25-yard run.
Williams led the Bears with 119 yards on 20 carries. Raushenbach completed four of five passes for 114 yards.
Pullie led the Tigers' (3-1, 0-1) offense with 69 yards on 19 carries.
Mathews 48, Yo. Christian 14
MINERAL RIDGE -- Lucas Buckner and Nick Ocheltree provided the offensive leadership for Mathews.
Buckner threw touchdown passes to Phil Ciprian (19 yards) and Ben Mackall (34 yards) and also scored one TD on an 11-yard dash. Buckner finished with 89 yards in the air on 4-for-11 passing.
Ocheltree tallied two TDs on runs of 26 yards and 1 yard and rushed for 202 yards in 17 carries.
Chris Joseph and Jake Swank also ran for TDs for Mathews (2-2, 1-0 East Suburban Conference), covering 19 and 12 yards, respectively. Brett Ford kicked five extra points.
Brad Hughes added 101 yards rushing in 10 carries to aid the Mustangs, while Joseph finished with 100 yards in 11 carries and Brent Jackson 67 yards in four runs.
Youngstown Christian (2-2, 0-1) was led by Aaron Agresta, who threw TD passes to Eddie Gonda for 13 yards and Randy Triplett for 15 yards. Agresta finished with 12-for-26 passing for 162 yards, while Gonda caught seven passes for 137 yards. Aaron Tate rushed for 22 yards on eight carries.
Boys soccer
HUBBARD -- Kevin Copenhaver had two goals and Brett Young had one goal as the Lakeview High boys soccer team stayed undefeated with a 3-1 win over Hubbard on Saturday.
Greg Pecorelli had five saves for Lakeview (8-0, 5-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Raphael Lima scored the goal for Hubbard (3-2-1. 2-2 TAC). Gaylen Hayek had 10 saves and Joe Cummings had two for the Eagles.
JVs: Lakeview 3-1.
Girls soccer
CHAMPION -- Lani Vlade had nine saves for Boardman and Kelley Dillon had eight for Champion as they battled to a 0-0 tie in a girls soccer game.
Boardman (3-3-2) had nine shots on goal and Champion (5-2-2) had eight.
