Guild's chili dinner will benefit 5-year-old

MINERAL RIDGE -- The St. Mary Church's Women's Guild will sponsor a chili dinner to benefit Josef Caruso, 5, who suffers from rhabdomyosarcoma, or "Rhabdo," from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the church, 3504 Main St.
Mary Ellen Graham, guild president, said the organization sponsors the chili dinner every year, and a free-will offering is accepted. Those who cannot afford to pay may eat anyway.
The donations gathered from the dinner are usually given to the Mineral Ridge Food Bank, operated out of the First Presbyterian Church on state Route 46.
This year, the guild has decided to donate proceeds to the Caruso family to help defray costs of treatment for Josef's cancer. He has been undergoing treatment since February.
Josef is the son of Anthony and Stephanie Caruso of Niles-Carver Road.
The disease is a fast-growing cancer that attacks muscle or tissue, and affects children 15 years old and younger.
The menu will include: chili, muffins, vegetables, hot dogs or chili dogs, beverages and doughnuts for dessert.
The event is open to the public.
