Canfield High School'sband night rescheduled
AUSTINTOWN -- Canfield High School, in cooperation with Austintown High School, has rescheduled its annual band show night to 7 p.m. next Monday. Heavy rains caused cancellation of an earlier scheduled performance.
The band show will be at Fitch Falcon Stadium. Bands scheduled to perform will be from Canfield, Austintown, West Branch and Struthers high schools.
Cost is $5; $4 for senior citizens and students; and children under 3 get in free.
Culvert replacement
LIBERTY -- Tibbetts-Wick Road about a quarter of a mile west of state Route 11 will be closed Sept. 27-28 to allow the Trumbull County Engineer's workers to replace a culvert.
Home-buyers workshop
LIBERTY -- Charter One will have a workshop for first-time home buyers in Mahoning and Lawrence counties and the cities of Warren, Salem and Columbiana from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex, 1620 Motor Inn Drive.
Participants will receive a certificate that is accepted to begin the loan process for a home. Information also will be provided about credit choices and predatory lenders.

Prize-winning piggies
CANFIELD -- Voters at the Canfield Fair chose Ashland County's piggy banks as the best in the "Our Ohio" display of ceramic piggy banks. Fair officials said second place went to Sandusky County and third to Washington County's entries.
The display was meant to symbolize agriculture's major contribution to Ohio's economy as the No. 1 industry. The piggy banks were hosted at the fair by the Mahoning County Farm Bureau in cooperation with the Mahoning County Agriculture Society. The public can view the banks online at www.ourohio.org.
Birding-watching talk
NEWTON FALLS -- Patrice Harvey of Wild Birds Unlimited in Boardman will do a presentation on bird-watching and migration in the fall and winter from 6 to 7:30 p.m. next Monday at the Newton Falls Public Library. Harvey also will discuss Project FeederWatch, a winter-long survey of birds in which volunteers assist by observing the birds at their home feeders.
