Stunning rally lifts Lakeview



Hubbard and Brookfield also won league games.
CORTLAND -- Brett Davenport raced 11 yards to a tie-breaking score with 1:18 remaining to complete a three-touchdown comeback for Lakeview High, as the Bulldogs rallied from a 14-0 deficit to a 21-14 win over Girard in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game Friday night.
The winning drive was spearheaded by Kevin Albert's 60-yard pass to Scott Sentner, while Ed Margala capped Davenport's TD with an extra point kick.
Albert also hit Matt Dunn on a 4-yard TD strike in the third quarter and Ed Margala kicked the extra point to tie it at 14-14.
Lakeview (3-1, 1-0 TAC) launched its rally in the second quarter when Matt Hohuth plunged a yard to a TD and Margala added the placement.
Girard (1-3, 0-1) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on Brett Dutton's 1-yard plunge and Scooter Hargate's kick. The Indians built the advantage to 14-0 in the second period on Hargate's 39-yard run and placement.
Albert completed 6-of-13 passes for 102 yards and added 36 yards rushing in nine carries. Brent Socie contributed 41 yards in six attempts for Lakeview.
Dutton led Girard with 100 yards rushing in 24 attempts and 84 yards passing on 7-for-13.
Hargate added 62 yards rushing in six carries and 56 yards passing on 5-for-16.
Hubbard 35,Newton Falls 14
NEWTON FALLS -- John Madeline scored a pair of touchdowns in a 21-point third quarter outburst, leading Hubbard to its third straight victory.
Madeline returned the second-half kick 80 yards to give Hubbard a 14-0 lead, then closed out the quarter with an 10-yard run as Hubbard won its TAC opener.
Mark Kanetsky threw a pair of touchdown passes -- 13 yards to Mike Maietta and 30 yards to John Bayuk -- and Joel Younkins scored on a 1-yard run for the Eagles. Kanetsky finished the game 8-of-17 for 87 yards.
Corey Mang caught a 25-yard scoring strike from Mike Pelyak and Jason Rodman was on the receiving end of a 35-yard scoring pass from Tamir Grogan for the Tigers (0-4). George Davis led the Tigers with 53 yards on 16 rushes and added 46 yards on two receptions. Pelyak was 6-of-11 for 127 yards.
Brookfield 17, LaBrae 9
LEAVITTSBURG -- Pete Hunkus and A.K. Livingston caught touchdown passes as Brookfield opened the TAC season by beating LaBrae.
Hunkus scored on a 29-yard pass from Corey Hartman and Livingston's touchdown covered 40 yards from Mike Stanish. Brookfield (2-2, 1-0) also scored on a safety when Ray Baum sacked the LaBrae quarterback in the end zone.
Dan Hartman scored on an 11-yard pass from Mike Ryan and Mark Yartz added a 27-yard field goal for LaBrae (2-2, 0-1).
Livingston led the Warrior defense with two interceptions.
Ryan ran seven times for 239 yards and completed 5-of-27 passes for 45 yards.
