Local men plan 50-hour benefit for Katrina victims

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Chad Garrett and Andy Higgins of Primetime Audio and Entertainment are planning a 50-hour benefit Monday through next Sunday with the goal of raising $10,000 for Hurricane Katrina victims.
Garrett is working with the American Red Cross Mahoning County chapter and many area businesses to plan the benefit.
Garrett is donating his time and equipment and will be on stage at seven locations throughout the week, performing disc jockey, karaoke and live acoustic shows.
He and Higgins hope to raise the $10,000 through donations from local businesses and from the public through auctions, raffles and games at each event.
Studio recording time, disc jockey packages, rock music compilations and an electric guitar are some of the items and services available through auctions and drawings, Garrett said.
Higgins said the first event will begin at 8 p.m. Monday at Caswell's in Poland. The week will conclude at 7 p.m. at Jillian's in Boardman, with live performances by local bands Via Sahara, Silver Tone and Livid.
All other shows begin at 9 p.m. and will be at Cosmo's in Austintown on Tuesday; at Jolly Joe's in Youngstown on Wednesday; at The Fireplace in Poland on Thursday; at Rocky's in Youngstown on Friday; and at Soffo's Cafe in Boardman on Saturday.
