Mihaly caps Ursuline's comeback win



Senior Ryan Novotny of Ursuline suffered a broken leg during the first half.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior Justin Mihaly, with 22 minutes remaining in the contest, scored the winning goal on an assist by senior Luis Esparra, as Ursuline High rallied to defeat Cardinal Mooney 3-2 in a Steel Valley Conference boys soccer game Thursday at Wick Recreation Area.
It was the first time in eight years that the Irish (3-2-1) beat the Cardinals (4-2).
Mihaly also scored a goal on a penalty kick in the first half. Jonathan Eusanio scored a goal early in the second half on an assist by Adam Dickson.
Ryan Novotny, a senior striker for the Irish, broke his leg during the first half. He'll be out for the rest of the season.
Mooney senior Zack Hernan scored the first goal of the contest. Robbie Fox added a goal early in the second half to put the Cardinals ahead 2-1.
Ursuline had 15 shots on goal and Mooney had 19.
The Irish goalkeeper, Jared Daly, had 13 saves. Andrew Loudon had six saves for the Cards.
Boardman 3, Louisville 2
BOARDMAN -- Junior T.J. Hosa scored the game-winning goal with four seconds remaining on an assist by Barrett Singleton.
Hosa scored his first goal earlier in the second half off a corner kick by Phil Curl.
Nick Antonucci also scored for Boardman at 1:50 of the first half.
Boardman goalie Anthony Grenga had seven saves.
Crestview 4, Minerva 3
MINERVA -- James Frost scored two goals and had an assist for the Rebels (6-1-2). Cory Leeson added a goal and an assist and Dennis Twaddle scored a goal.
Clay Belkes scored all three goals for the Lions (2-3-2).
Canfield 3, Salem 1
CANFIELD -- Adam Jones scored two goals in the second half to spark the Cardinals in the Metro Athletic Conference game.
Sophomore Tim Hutchinson gave Canfield a 1-0 lead in the first half on an assist from Pete Johnson. Bunk Mull answered with a goal for the Quakers to tie it.
Salem's goalkeeper Justice Pash had 22 saves. Eric Clayton had three for the Cardinals.
JVs: Canfield 8-0.
West Branch 3, United 0
BELOIT -- Nathan Diehl had a goal and an assist, while Aaron Cronin and Jake Beegle also scored for West Branch (6-1-1). Joe Starkey had an assist, Shane Young had two saves and Johnny Wallace had one.
For United, Spencer Widlicka had 17 saves.
Girls
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sophomore Kara Cooper had five goals -- two short of her career-high -- and two assists for Youngstown Christian (2-3) in an 8-7 win over LaBrae. Savonnah Hill, Amanda Vestal and Alyssa Rojas each added one.
For LaBrae (1-3), Jalisa Elkins Abbey Underwood each scored three goals and Alexandria Polomsky had one.
