JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL 2 award-winners to be shown

The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival has selected two award-winning films for screening this weekend.
The feature film "Wondrous Oblivion," winner of the 2004 Best Feature at the Boston Jewish Film Festival, will be shown at 8 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday at 4 p.m., "Waterworks," the 2004 Best Documentary at the Boston Jewish Film Festival, will be screened.
Both will be shown at Austintown Movies, 6000 Mahoning Ave., in Austintown Plaza. These two films continue the mission of the YAJFF to enhance the educational landscape of our community by bringing films of special note to the area.
"Wondrous Oblivion" is the story of David Wiseman, a young Jewish boy living in London in the 1960s. He loves the game of cricket and struggles to become good at it. When a Jamaican family moves in next door and builds a cricket net in their back yard, David gets real coaching from the father, Dennis, played by Delroy Lindo. But his friendship with Dennis and his daughter, Judy, tests the bounds of tolerance in David's neighborhood, where neither blacks nor Jews are welcome.
"Watermarks" is the story of seven remarkable Jewish women athletes, Austrian national swimming champions and members of the legendary Jewish sports club, Hakoah Vienna.
Its members dominated Austrian national women's swimming competitions in the 1930s, at the height of European anti-Semitism. The film includes footage from the past, as well as introduces us to the surviving members of the team, now in their 80s.
