STRUTHERS Council meeting Council heard the status of these projects Wednesday as reported by Mayor Daniel Mamula:

The Ohio Department of Urban Development will recommend the State Controlling Board grant of $565,000 from the Clean Ohio Assistance Fund to the city. The grant will be used for environmental clean up of the former coke works site near Cene Field in the city's industrial corridor. With funding approved, the city plans to clean up the site in late fall and have it ready for redevelopment by spring 2006. Astro Shapes Inc., already operating in the area, wants to develop the site.
The city planning commission reviewed plans for a residential housing development and approved sending the plan to council. The development will be a gated community between Eleventh Street and Youngstown-Poland Road. The 26 single-family homes will range from $120,000 to $140,000 and be managed by a homeowners' association.
City officials will mark the opening of the access bridge on Walton Avenue with a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. Monday. The bridge provides access to the city's industrial corridor which is crucial for its0 redevelopment. The bridge will be dedicated as the Steelworkers Bridge in recognition of the contribution made to the community by thousands of steelworkers who once worked in the various mills along Struthers' river corridor. City officials invite former steelworkers to attend and participate.
The city received a permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for the Midlothian sewer improvement projects. Project plans and specifications are under study.
The Ohio Water Development Authority approved a loan for the city's sewage treatment plant retention basin improvements. Repayment will be $22,614 per year for 20 years beginning in 2007.
