Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, Boardman, is a drop-off site for items earmarked for cleanup in southern states affected by Hurricane Katrina. Bethel is working through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Disaster Relief. Items needed are hammers, nails, large push brooms, shovels, chain saws, generators, knee boots, face masks, gloves, trash cans, gallons of water, bleach and bleach wipes. Collection hours are from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 2 to 4 p.m. Sundays. For information call (330) 757-2878.
Warren Area Board of Realtors is sponsoring Golf for the Gulf Shores, a golf outing benefit for the American Red Cross Katrina emergency relief fund, Sept. 23 at Tamer Win Golf Course. Now Creations Inc. of Youngstown is sending 200 inspirational T-shirts to evacuees and relief workers at the Houston Astrodome. Vince Lisi, president of Now Creations, said the effort is called "Support the Soul" and is aimed at assisting the evacuees to maintain their dignity, hope and self-confidence, and to assist the relief workers to maintain dignity and poise. Lisi said his company produces T-shirts and other products "to help people access the tremendous 'inner power' that we all possess." The 200 T-shirts convey the Now Creations motto, Namaste: "The good in me sees the good in you." Lisi said namaste is an ancient Sanskrit word with several meanings, with "the good in me sees the good in you" among them.
