2 injured in crash
BEAVER, Pa. -- Two Columbiana County people are hospitalized with injuries in a car-motorcycle crash over the weekend on Taggart Road, Darlington Township, Beaver County, Pa.
The Beaver Station of the Pennsylvania State Police said Charles F. Harris, 58, of East Liverpool, was riding his motorcycle east on Taggart about 3:40 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of the bike and crossed into the path of a westbound car driven by Jessica M. Elliott, 28, of Rogers, Ohio.
State police said the front of Elliott's car struck the right side of the motorcycle, causing leg injuries to Harris and his passenger, Renee Stoica, 53, of East Palestine. Elliott was uninjured.
A Stat MedEvac helicopter flew Harris and Stoica from the accident scene to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. A St. Elizabeth official said Harris was in stable condition and Stoica in critical condition Sunday evening.
CHIP grant meeting
AUSTINTOWN -- Mahoning County officials will have a meeting next Monday to explain the fiscal year 2005 Community Housing Improvement Program, or CHIP, grant. The meeting will be at 6 p.m at the Austintown Township Administration Building, 82 Ohltown Road. Guidelines, target areas, eligibility requirements and application will be explained.
Grass-roots activism
YOUNGSTOWN -- Learn how to become a grass-roots activist in your community during a program planned from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at First Unitarian Church, 1105 Elm St. Sponsors are Planned Parenthood Affiliates of Ohio and Planned Parenthood of Mahoning Valley. The Youngstown Supreme Court Live Action Camp will show participants how to advertise their beliefs and how to accomplish effective letter-writing to thepress. Participants also will canvass a neighborhood in Boardman or Canfield.
Outdoor labyrinth walk
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- The group EverGreen will present an outdoor labyrinth walk from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Villa Maria Community Center. First Night applications
YOUNGSTOWN -- Applications are being accepted through Sept. 30 from entertainers for the sixth annual First Night Youngstown New Year's Eve Celebration of the Arts.
Single and group acts may apply, and acts should be suitable for children and family entertainment.
