VOLLEYBALL Kassim keys Canfield to pair of triumphs



HANOVERTON -- Natasha Kassim produced four points, 10 kills and four blocks Saturday to lead the Canfield High volleyball team to a three-set victory over United.
Lorraine Fowler added 11 points with six aces, five digs and three kills as Canfield won by scores of 25-8, 21-25 and 16-10.
Jackie Nentwick made eight kills, an ace and three points.

HANOVERTON -- Kassim made 10 blocks, seven kills, eight points and an ace for the Cardinals (3-3).
Kelsey Owen added nine points with an ace, five kills and three blocks. Courtney Rothbauer made eight points and two aces while Kate Heagerty made 21 assists.
Becky Rinya and Lauren Pshsniak each scored nine points for the Warriors.

HANOVERTON -- Rachael Boyce scored 19 points and made six kills for the Warriors (5-5). Rinya scored 11 points.

Fitch finishes fourth
ROCKY RIVER -- Fitch finished fourth in the eight-team field for the Magnificat Invitational.
The Falcons (5-2) defeated Notre Dame Cathedral Latin (25-20, 25-21) and lost to Cincinnati Seton (26-24, 25-10) and Parma Holy Name (26-24, 25-23).
Fitch's Caitlin O'Patchen scored 26 points, eight kills and 33 digs for the three matches. Nicole Smaldino made 55 digs, Rachel Ducay made 11 points and eight kills, Meghan McDermott finished with 16 points and 38 digs, and Michelle Basista made 22 digs and five points.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Victoria Kocanjer made 10 points with three aces and six kills, Michelle Pelini made eight points and five kills and Sarah Pelini scored seven points with five aces for the Cardinals.
Marissa Hersh scored three aces for Kennedy Catholic.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Michelle Pelini scored 13 points and Jacci Wyman and Dayna Daltorio had 12 apiece for the Cardinals.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Wyman had 11 points and eight kills while Daltorio had 10 points, seven aces and two kills for the Cardinals (7-0).
For Lowellville, Rebekah Sturgis made three kills and three aces.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Alison Grapevine made nine kills with two blocks as the Rockets won their first match.
Rebekah Sturgis scored four aces and Samantha DiBlasio made five assists for the Rockets.
For the Eagles, Michelle Dillen made four kills, Audrey Burdick scored five aces and Marissa Hersh made seven assists.

SALEM -- Brittany Gregory made 13 kills, five blocks and one ace for the Quakers (4-3).

GIRARD -- Taylor Summerfield, Katlyn Flick and Melissa Luberft led Howland (5-0) as part of a tri-match at Girard High gym.
Summerfield made nine points, four aces, seven kills, 15 assists and one block.
Flick made three points, two aces, nine kills and three blocks. Lubert contributed six points, two aces, three kills, three assists, one block and one dig.
Springfield (4-3) was led by Whitney Yaeger with 14 points and eight aces and Christy Warren with five kills and three blocks.
Girard 25-25, Springfield 16-13
GIRARD -- Hillary Patterson collected 13 points with three aces while Chelsea Morrison produced seven kills and three blocks for the Indians (5-1). With four digs and five points was Courtney Madden.
For the Tigers, Nora McKelvey made four points including an ace and Krista Snyder assisted six times.
Crestview 25-10, Jackson-Milton 15-10
NEW WATERFORD -- The Rebels (6-0) remain unbeaten with their double victory in the triangular meet at Crestview.
In the win over Jackson-Milton, Elyse Mongillo led the Rebels with 22 points, three aces and 17 assists. Tricia Richards made seven kills, three blocks and eight digs. Kristen Harroff finished with five kills and three digs.

NEW WATERFORD -- Megan Whitmer paced the Rebels with six points and seven assists. Allison Chepke scored five points and made four kills and a block.
Richards scored seven points with four aces, eight kills and six digs. Julia Robert added four points, four kills and four blocks.
Maddie D'Orio led the Vikings with eight kills. Angelica Pugh added five points and three blocks.
Jackson-Milton 25-23, LaBrae 23-17
NEW WATERFORD -- Laura Yash scored 12 points, with an ace, six kills and four blocks to lead the Bluejays (3-1). Stephanie Moger added 11 points, with two aces.
D'Orio led the Vikings (3-2) with 14 kills and four blocks.

SEBRING -- The Lordstown High girls volleyball team remains unbeaten after sweeping two matches at Sebring.
Megan Gibson scored 12 points, with two blocks and eight kills to pace the Red Devils.
Alisha Miller made 15 assists and Ashley Gibbs made eight kills for Lordstown.

SEBRING -- Gibson scored nine points and made seven blocks for the Red Devils (5-0). Whitney Blank made 12 assists and Ashley Keller added eight points and three kills.
