PREPS Hernan propels Mooney to win



Zach Hernan's two goals led the Cardinals to their third win of the season.
COLUMBUS -- Senior forward Zach Hernan scored two goals, one goal each in the first and second halves, to lead the Cardinal Mooney High School boys soccer team to a 3-1 win over Columbus DeSales Saturday.
Junior Dom DiPasquale scored with the game nine minutes old to give Mooney (3-1-1) a 1-0 lead. He has two goals this year.
Hernan then made it 2-0 on his third score of the season.
Scott Blasko and Hector Hernandez had assists for Mooney. Senior goalie Andrew Loudon saved eight shots.
DeSales (3-3) lost to Mooney in the 2002 Division II state championship game.
Girls soccer
NORTH OLMSTED -- Senior forward Erin Gilmour had two goals and freshman forward Megan Long had the other goal as Howland (5-0-1) battled back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat North Olmsted 3-1.
North Olmsted (4-2) scored first when Mandi Zack took a pass from Jenna Madison.
Less than four minutes into the second half, Howland tied the score when Long and Deja Amato got the ball to Gilmour. Less than two minutes later, D'Amato and Long teamed to feed Gilmour with the go-ahead goal at 34:16. With 11 minutes remaining, Long iced the game with an assist from Melissa Kohn.
Howland goalie Melissa Airhart had 13 saves.
JVs: Howland, 4-1.
Volleyball
GIRARD -- Hillary Patterson scored 22 points and had nine aces to lead Girard to a win over Howland. The Indians won 22-25, 25-12, 15-6.
Chelsea Morrison added 14 kills for Girard (6-1), while Courtney Madden had eight kills and five digs.
For Howland (5-1), Tara Rose had seven points and seven kills, and Taylor Summerfield had 10 assists.
