NOTEBOOK Browns vs. Bengals
Costly mistakes: The Browns had two touchdowns called back due to penalties. Wide receiver Dennis Northcutt had a 73-yard punt return negated by an illegal block penalty in the game's opening minutes. Then, midway through the third quarter, defensive back Leigh Bodden had a 38-yard interception return negated by an illegal hands to the face penalty away from the play. "Well, it hurts, it really does," said Browns coach Romeo Crennel. "That punt return would have given us a lot of momentum, but we had a penalty on that. Then we had another touchdown called back. What can we say?"
Local connection: Bengals defensive back Keiwan Ratliff was born in Youngstown, attended high school in Columbus and went to college at the University of Florida. He was drafted by the Bengals in the second round of the 2004 draft. Ratliff finished with six tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and two punt returns for 18 yards.
Special memory: Sunday was the four-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the day has a special meaning for Browns guard Joe Andruzzi. Andruzzi's brother, Jimmy, was one of the first 200 firefighters to arrive at the towers. Jimmy was on the 20th floor of Tower 2 when his partner complained of chest pains. They made it out just before the tower collapsed. Andruzzi's other brothers, Billy and Mark, are also firefighters and were called in for the rescue effort. "Everybody knows what they were doing and where they were at [on Sept. 11]," Andruzzi said. "I remember not knowing if my brothers were alive. I can never fathom what Jimmy or anybody else goes through. In my eyes, they are my heroes and everybody's heroes."
