GIRARD -- The Youngstown branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will have its 96th annual Freedom Fund banquet at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St.
The keynote speaker will be announced at a later date.

I-76 entrance rampto close temporarily
NORTH JACKSON -- The Bailey Road eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 76 will be closed at 4 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Sept. 19. The posted detour is Bailey Road to Mahoning Avenue to state Route 534 to I-76.
Music booster to hostseveral area bands
VIENNA -- Mathews Music Booster presents its 11th annual band night at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mathews Booster Field off state Route 193 and Warren Sharon Road.
Participating bands are Berlin Center, Western Reserve, Mineral Ridge, Southington Chalker, Woodrow Wilson and the host band from Mathews High School.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for those 65 and older and 18 and younger.
Heart Walk at YSU track
YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Heart Association's 2005 Heart Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday at Youngstown State University track will be dedicated to Faith Elizabeth Enlow, daughter of Rick and Geri Enlow of Salem, who died Aug. 23.
The theme is "Change Tomorrow Today" for participants from Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Scouts invited to learnabout the environment
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will sponsor an Environmental Scout Day on Nov. 5 for Scouts from 7 to 11 years old.
Scouts may participate in two, one-hour hands-on environmental education programs. Sessions will be from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.
Boy Scout den leaders must register Scouts since group size is limited.
Registration will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 5 at (724) 794-2682, and callers should note the session they plan to attend.
