HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL Wilson suffers 3rd straight loss



The Redmen have now lost 33 of their last 34 games.
SHADYSIDE -- Sophomore quarterback Billy Merryman completed 7 of 13 passes for 142 yards and a score Saturday to lead Shadyside to a 23-14 win over Wilson.
The Maroon Knights (3-0) took a 23-0 lead at the half and held the Redmen scoreless through three quarters. Wilson (0-3) has lost 33 of its last 34 games.
Merryman opened the scoring with a 33-yard touchdown pass to senior Lyle Burkhardt and Michael Meintel added the placement kick.
The Redmen were held on downs and Burkhardt returned the punt 32 yards for a score and a 13-0 margin.
Merryman was clicking on the next drive, hitting Jesse Tamburin with a 13-yard completion and a pair of aerials to Shawn Maynard of 22 and 21 yards.
Taylor Jovicic ran in from the 1 for the touchdown and Merryman hit him for the conversion, making it 21-0.
A safety made it 23-0 at the break.
Wilson gained 130 yards in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Lamar McQueen scored on a 1-yard run and he then passed 4 yards to Gary Scott for another Wilson score in the final minute.
McQueen ran 10 times for 17 yards and hit on seven of 16 passes for 85 yards.
Wilson lost three fumbles and was penalized five times for 35 yards.
Conotton Valley 35, Southington 19
SOUTHINGTON -- Southington's (0-3) Tom Harklerode returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and caught two passes from Andy Forrest for scores of 82 and 98 yards.
He finished with three catches for 189 yards and quarterback Forrest connected on 10-of-22 passes for 276 yards.
D.C. Roth of Conotton Valley (2-1) caught TD passes of 54 and 33 yards from Erick Bowdish, who also scored on a 1-yard run.
Kennedy Catholic 40, Conneaut Lake 14
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Eagles (1-1) opened a 40-0 lead by halftime then rested many regulars.
Ross Gargano returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for an early 6-0 lead, and Jopie Rossi had a 4-yard score that made it 14-0.
Chris O'Brien recorded the third Eagle touchdown when he recovered a fumbled punt snap in the end zone.
Lee Plotts scored two first-half touchdowns, one on a 63-yard punt return and the other on a 6-yard rush.
Gargano also got into the end zone again on a 9-yard dash.
Conneaut Lake (0-2) did all its scoring in the second half.
Western Beaver 21, Farrell 6
INDUSTRY, Pa. -- Michael Wiley rushed for 78 yards on nine carries for the Steelers (1-2, 0-1 Big 7).
Julius Brody completed four of 12 passes for 28 yards and scored Farrell's touchdown on a 1-yard run.
Quarterback John D'Angelo scored twice on 1-yard runs for Western Beaver (3-0, 1-0). He also threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Jake Weber.
