Transportation director hired
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Neshannock Area School District has a new transportation director.
School directors hired Glenn Leslie of Enon Valley on Thursday at an annual salary of $44,000. Leslie had been a bus mechanic at Mohawk. He will succeed Todd Esposito at Neshannock who left to serve as the transportation director at Mohawk.
With the recent announcement of Superintendent Dr. Michael Hink's plans for retirement in January, the board agreed to enter into a contract with Tri State Area School Study Council to serve as a superintendent search consultant.
The vote to enter into the contract at an annual rate of $4,900 plus expenses and the additional membership fee of $600 was not unanimous.
Board members Dr. John Dietz, Cheryl Kimmel and Jay Vitale voted no. Board member Mary Jo Coyne was absent. Vitale and Kimmel said they did not like that the extra expenses were not clearly defined.
The district will add two new technology systems. Maynard Harvey, supervisor of public services, told the board that students will now be able to use a debit card system to pay for school lunches. The new system will allow parents to place money in pupils' accounts, which they can access to pay for lunches with their library cards.
The second improvement will allow parents to view their child's grades and attendance over the Internet.
