Sen. Santorum brings bucks
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum came here bearing a big check and offering the promise of more cash.
The senator dropped off a $740,000 check at the New Castle Area Transit Authority on Friday afternoon.
The money will be used to buy three new buses, said Leonard Lastoria, transit authority director.
The new 30-foot buses will replace three buses that date back to 1982, the director said. They expect to put the new buses into service in about a year, he said. The transit authority has a fleet of 30 buses and offers transit service throughout the county. They also drive four buses each weekday to Pittsburgh. Lastoria said they intend to add a fifth bus run to Pittsburgh soon because they are so popular.
Before giving money to the transit authority, Santorum met with New Castle Mayor Wayne Alexander and police Chief Tom Sansone to discuss procuring federal money to help fight drugs in the city.
