Some of Nashville's biggest stars, including Alan Jackson and Alison Krauss, will raise funds for Hurricane Katrina victims from the Grand Ole Opry stage later this month.
They will appear along with an all-star group of country stars in the "Country Reaches Out" concert on Sept. 27 at 9 p.m., Opry spokesman Greg Rossiter said.
Great American Country, DIY and Fine Living television networks will broadcast the show live. The three networks are owned by the E.W. Scripps Co.
Jackson, Krauss, Craig Morgan and Billy Currington will head the appeal for viewer donations to the American Red Cross in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast and New Orleans.
Ticket sales from the commercial-free event will also go toward relief efforts in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.
"Without fail, country music and its fans show compassion and support for those in need," said Colin Reed, chairman and CEO of Gaylord Entertainment, the Opry's parent company. "The Opry is the heart and home of country music, and the Opry family -- its employees and artists alike -- wants to do everything it can to make sure country's heart is extended to our neighbors who have suffered such unspeakable losses this week."
