Canine officer nabs suspect in 2 robberies

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A canine officer stopped a robbery suspect who had led officers from two police departments on a foot chase in some woods.
City police charged Christopher Pagley, 20, of Rear Lathrop Street, with armed robbery, theft, aggravated assault, reckless endangering and resisting arrest.
Police in New Castle and Neshannock Township were chasing Pagley after two convenience stores were robbed within an hour of each other Thursday afternoon.
City police said a robber pulled a knife on a clerk at Sam's Food Mart on Croton Avenue at 3:50 p.m. HyWay Oil also was robbed just before 5 p.m. by a man wielding a knife, township police reported.
Officers from both departments started chasing a black Pontiac Grand Am after the HyWay Oil robbery. Eventually Pagley ran out of the car into some woods and canine officer Chuck stopped him, city police said. Police said Pagley told them he robbed the stores to pay back a $500 drug debt.
