YOUNGSTOWN -- Children's Museum of the Valley, 139 E. Boardman St., will host Grandparents Day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. All grandparents get in free. Young visitors will enjoy making presents in the art center for their grandparents, and story times and activities will engage grandparents and their grandchildren in interactive play.
Society to conductWick walking tours
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Historical Society's Wick Avenue walking tour is Saturday. From a sleepy pastoral neighborhood, to Youngstown's grand "Millionaires' Row," to the Valley's vital cultural artery, Wick Avenue provides a record of the evolution of our community. Park roads closedfor Community Cup
YOUNGSTOWN -- These drives in Mill Creek Park will be closed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for the annual Community Cup: New Bears Den Drive, Bears Den Drive, West Glacier Drive, Cross Drive, and West Park Drive.
All parking for the Community Cup will be at the Wick Recreation Area at Belle Vista Avenue and McCollum Road.
Trumbull hires companyto search for 911 chief
WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners decided Thursday to spend up to $22,500 to find a new county 911 director. Tim Gladis was fired in July from his $62,567 director's job.
Mercer Group Inc., a nationwide company, was hired to conduct a nationwide search for a new director. Mercer Group will be paid $15,000, plus expenses not to exceed $7,500.
To be arraigned in theft
YOUNGSTOWN -- Joyce A. Walls, 35, of Stewart Avenue was expected to appear in municipal court today for arraignment on a theft charge. She is accused of stealing 50 copies of The Vindicator from vending machines in March. The misdemeanor charge carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and $1,000 fine.
Charged with robbery
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kevin Burke, 47, of St. Louis Avenue was arrested around 1 a.m. Thursday and charged with the aggravated robbery of the Adult Book Store on Market Street. He was due in municipal court today for arraignment.
Culvert replacement
WELLSVILLE -- State Route 39, between state Route 164 and Wellsville, will be closed for culvert replacements by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Route 39 will close at Route 164 in Washington Township, Columbiana County, from midnight next Friday to 4 a.m. Sept. 19. It will be closed again at midnight Sept. 23 until 4 a.m. Sept. 26.
Port authority board
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony Traficanti has asked that anyone interested in serving on the board of the Western Reserve Port Authority should submit applications to commissioners within about a week. There are two openings to be filled by commissioners.
Trumbull road work
CHAMPION -- State Road will be closed in two locations next week for culvert replacements, the county engineer's office has announced. On Monday and Tuesday, it will be closed just north of state Route 534 in Southington. On Wednesday and Thursday, it will be closed just south of Ensign Road in Farmington.
Issue One endorsement
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Regional Chamber endorses the Jobs for Ohio issue on the November ballot. The issue, known as State Issue One, would allow the state to borrow up to $2 billion. The money would fund infrastructure projects, create job ready sites for businesses and promote high-technology companies, products and services.
