Firefighters plan 9/11 memorial events
Two area fire departments will hold public services Sunday in remembrance of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Cardinal Joint Fire District is holding a 9/11 memorial at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Village Green in Canfield.
Chief Robert Tieche said all Mahoning County fire and police agencies have been invited to participate, and the district is expecting a large turnout. Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court will be the keynote speaker, Tieche said.
The Warren Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 8:48 a.m. Sunday at the central fire station, 111 South St. S.W., in remembrance of the 343 New York City firefighters who died in the terrorist attack. The service will coincide with the exact time the first hijacked plane hit the trade center's north tower.
