Dancing for local charity

The dance competition will take place at the Holiday Inn-Boardman.
BOARDMAN -- Seeing WFMJ personality Frank Marzullo or state Rep. Bob Hagan do the tango doesn't require a hefty bribe, tequila shots or even serious convincing: a $75 donation to Tod Children's Hospital will do the trick.
Local celebrities will face off Sept. 16 in a friendly dance competition in the Holiday Inn-Boardman's grand ballroom. Various well-known individuals will each perform a ballroom-style dance, which they have previously rehearsed with a dance instructor. The audience will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorites by making a donation to Tod Children's Hospital. The pair with the highest donation total will be named the "Dancing with the Valley Stars" champions.
Tickets for the event are $75, with all proceeds going to the hospital. Hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and other refreshments will be served.
New ownership
The event, inspired by the hit show "Dancing with the Stars," is being held in conjunction with the hotel's transition to new ownership and management. Janus Hotels and Resorts Inc., a hotel management services company with more than 25 years' experience in the hospitality industry, has added the Holiday Inn-Boardman to its portfolio.
The property's new owner, Rupen Patel, who has hired Janus to manage the hotel, has promised a minimum $10,000 contribution to Tod Children's Hospital. "We will do whatever is necessary to donate at least $10,000," he said.
Celebrities scheduled to perform include: A.C. McCullough and Kelly Stevens of WHOT; Frank Marzullo, Laurie Lehosky and Susan DeLeo of WFMJ; Melissa Mack of WYTV; Amber Nicotra of WKBN; state Rep. Bob Hagan; Tod pediatrician Dr. Stephanie Dewar; and martial arts expert Master Park.
Instructors from Fred Astaire Dance Studios, Ballroom with Style School of Dance and A.E. Vea Ballroom Dance Club have agreed to donate their services and will teach the dances that they have choreographed to the celebrities.
Tickets for "Dancing with the Valley Stars" are available at the Holiday Inn-Boardman front desk or by calling either (330) 726-1611 or (330) 884-4774.
