Scrappers' losing skid reaches 8

AUBURN, N.Y. -- Kyle Bohm's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Auburn Doubledays to a 4-3 victory over Mahoning Valley Tuesday, extending the Scrappers' losing streak to eight games.
Mahoning Valley has lost 15 of its last 18 games in the New York-Penn League.
Albert Vargas, pitching his second inning of relief for the Scrappers, allowed a leadoff double to Joshua Bell in the eighth. Bohm followed with his second homer of the season to left.
Mahoning Valley scored all of its runs in the fourth inning. Cirilo Cumberbatch led off with a single, then P.J. Hiser hit his sixth home run of the season to tie the score at 2. After a pair of strikeouts, Brent Thomas walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ryan Spillman's grounder to short was mishandled by Jesus Gonzalez, and Thomas scored.
Auburn's first two runs came in the third on a throwing error by Scrappers third baseman Chris Clem and a single by Emmanuel Sena.
The loss ruined a good start by Mahoning Valley's Ryan Edell, who allowed five hits and two runs in six innings. He struck out three.
The Scrappers (32-42) conclude the season at Eastwood Field tonight and Thursday with games against the Jamestown Jammers. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:05.
