Mooney topples Howland, 3-0; Boardman gives Perry first loss



Austintown Fitch blanked Canton McKinley 5-0.
HOWLAND -- In a rematch of last year's Division II district final, the Mooney High boys soccer team won its first game of the season, 3-0 over Howland.
After a scoreless first half, the Cardinals (1-1-1) opened the scoring 10 minutes into the second half on a 20-yard shot by senior Frankie Catone. Dom DiPasquale and James Simon added goals while Scott Blasko, Zack Hernan and DiPasquale all had assists for Mooney.
Goalkeeper Andrew Loudon had three saves for Mooney, while Howland (4-1) goalkeeper Paul Burley had 11.
Boardman 2, Massillon Perry 0
MASSILLON -- Boardman's Matt Moore had five saves for his fourth shutout of the season to lead the Spartans in a Federal League match.
Eric Bouslough and T.J. Hosa scored goals and Nick Antonucci had the assist for Boardman. Aaron Dillon had eight saves for Perry (3-1).
Fitch 5, Canton McKinley 0
CANTON -- Brad Hrinko and Nick Bowlen scored two goals apiece for the Falcons (2-2, 1-1). Jeff Basile added the other goal.
Hrinko had two assists and Chris Colaluca had one.
Goaltender Josh Forsythe had 16 saves for the Bulldogs (0-3, 0-2). Fitch goalie Brian Remias had four saves, Andrew Monk had three and Brian Berquist had two.
Ursuline 1, Niles 1
NILES -- Niles' Justin Shelton scored on a penalty kick early in the second half and Ursuline freshman Kevin Patrick tied the score late in the half off an assist by senior Ryan Novotny.
Jared Daily had seven saves for the Irish (2-2-1), who out-shot Niles 19-8. Joe Harvey had 11 saves for the Red Dragons. JVs: Niles won 1-0.
Warren JFK 3, United 2
HANOVERTON -- Kennedy sophomore Jerrod Cooper scored the game-winning goal with seven minutes left off a cross from junior Nathan Pirtz. Pirtz also scored and Cooper had an assist for the Eagles (3-0-1). Junior Ed Hazboun had a goal, senior Brian Mulvey had an assist and Matt Kokrak had six saves.
For United (1-3), Matt Houk had two goals and Spencer Widlicka had 15 assists. JVs: JFK won 6-1.
Maplewood 2, Newton Falls 1
MECCA -- Ryan Bell and Brent Bolinger each scored a goal for the Rockets (4-1). Bell had an assist.
Freddie Harris scored the goal for the Tigers (0-2-1).
Maplewood had 26 shots on goal and Newton Falls had 27. Tyler Perkins had 14 saves for the Rockets and Kurt Elias had 18 saves for the Tigers.
Crestview 2, East Palestine 2
COLUMBIANA -- Ricky Plum and Brandon Hull each scored goals to give the Bulldogs (1-0-1) a 2-1 lead at halftime.
James Frost scored a goal and had an assist and Cory Leeson added the other goal for the Rebels (3-1-2).
Heartland Christian 4,Warren Christian 1
WARREN -- Derek Patterson scored twice while Kyle Knepper and Jared Schmied each had a goal for the Lions (3-1).
