Canfield girls open with 2-1 win over Niles

CANFIELD -- Vicki Magyar and Liz Vernal each scored goals as the Canfield High School girls soccer team opened Metro Athletic Conference competition with a 2-1 win over Niles Tuesday.
After the Cardinals (5-0, 1-0) opened a 1-0 lead at the break and a 2-0 margin in the second half, Aliesha Sharpe scored for the Red Dragons (4-1, 0-1).
Jill Tererri and Audra Frimpong had assists and Ashley Hunter saved six shots for the Cardinals.
Tyler Fridley assisted on the Niles goal while Kelsy Mikesell recorded five saves.
Poland 5, Champion 0
POLAND -- Maureen Malone, Sarah Anderson, Jessica Toth, Ashely Cuba and Tori Rumble scored a goal apiece for the Bulldogs (2-1).
Malone had two assists. Ashley Lutheran and Jill Roemer each added an assist.
Girard 1, Liberty 0
GIRARD -- Crissy Glass scored for Girard in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
