3 area men face federal charges



YOUNGSTOWN -- A federal grand jury in Cleveland indicted the following men on charges of violating federal firearms laws:
UDennis George, 48, of U.S. Route 422, Niles. He is accused of possessing a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of aggravated burglary.
UMichael Barnhart, 41, of Morrow Drive, Cortland. He is accused of possessing a firearm not registered with the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
UMichael Jenkins, 27, of West Judson Avenue, Youngstown. He is accused of possessing a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of felonious assault and intimidation of a witness.
The indictments are part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a gun-violence reduction program of the U.S. Department of Justice in partnership with state and local law-enforcement agencies. The program targets armed felons for federal prosecution.
The cases were investigated by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Youngstown, Niles and Warren police; and the Ohio Adult Parole Authority.
