2 men hospitalized after being shot during gunfire in New Castle
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Two men were hospitalized after an exchange of gunfire at a Ray Street home.
Police said six men got out of a car and opened fire at 601 Ray Street just after midnight Tuesday. People inside the home returned fire, police said.
Afterward, two people inside the house were found shot.
According to Police Chief Tom Sansone, Duane G. Evans, 22, who gave police two addresses of Harbor Street and Boyles Avenue in New Castle, was shot in the back and the buttocks. He was treated at Jameson Hospital, Sansone said.
A second man, Shantez Dejuan Johnson, 31, of Detroit, who is staying at 601 Ray Street, was shot in the foot and taken to UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment, the chief said. A report on his condition was not available.
Sansone noted that Johnson is wanted on a dangerous drug warrant issued by police in Detroit, but Michigan authorities have refused to extradite him.
"It's not the first warrant we've gotten and Detroit has refused to take it," Sansone said.
