Scrappers losing streak continues at Auburn 4-1

Mahoning Vally has now lost seven straight and 14 of its last 17.
AUBURN, NY -- Four pitchers combined to hold the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to six hits -- all singles -- as the Auburn Doubledays defeated the Scrappers 4-1 at Dwyer Stadium Monday.
Auburn (43-29) has already wrapped up the championship of the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League.
The playoffs begin Saturday.
The Scrappers (32-41) have lost seven in a row and 14 of their last 17.
The Doubledays scored three times in the last of the second inning and the margin held up until the seventh frame when the Scrappers got on the board.
Auburn added an insurance run in the last of the eighth.
Cirilo Cumberbatch and Chris Clem each had two hits for the Scrappers and Jose Chavez drove in the lone run.
Cumberbatch singled to center to lead off the seventh and one out later advanced to second base on a single by Trevor Mortensen.
Clem singled through the infield to load the bases.
Chavez then grounded out to plate Cumberbatch.
Kevin Dixon (3-6) took the loss. He went four innings, yielding five hits and left with a 3-0 deficit.
The Scrappers play at Auburn again tonight in their final road contest of the season.
Mahoning Valley will face Jamestown Wednesday and Thursday at Eastwood Field at 7:05 p.m. in its final two games of 2005.
